Court approves sheriff's sale of Prince Theater

Posted: October 05, 2010

The state Superior Court on Monday refused to forestall a sheriff's sale of the Prince Music Theater on Chestnut Street, surprising the operators of the nonprofit performance venue, who said they would seek an alternative route to block the sale. Marjorie Samoff, producing director of the theater, said she was exploring other options to prevent TD Bank from taking possession of the facility. The bank and theater have been engaged in litigation for more than two years. A spokeswoman for the bank had no immediate comment. The Prince, which includes a 446-seat main stage and a smaller black-box theater, is listed to be sold at a sheriff's sale Tuesday. It owes TD Bank about $4.8 million. - Stephan Salisbury
