A Willow Grove woman tried to cash in on breast cancer awareness month by faking the disease, soliciting donations for her treatment on Facebook and forging fake documents from Fox Chase Cancer Center, police said today.

Although Alicia Tolton's alleged scheme was busted before an Oct. 17 beef-and-beer fundraiser was held, Upper Moreland Township Police said she'd already raised about $1,000 by soliciting them on her personal Facebook page and on one she created, called "Wishes for Alicia."

Tolton, 26, allegedly claimed she was diagnosed with breast and ovarian cancer 18 months ago. She planned the beef-and-beer by arranging for tickets, shirts, bracelets and raffles, according to police.

Story continues below.

To try to prove her false claims, Tolton created fake medical invoices and receipts from Fox Chase Cancer Center, police said.

When Tolton was interviewed by police, she allegedly came clean and admitted to making it up.

She was charged with theft, forgery and tampering with records.
