Two police officers were injured early Saturday in an accident with a van at 23d Street and Snyder Avenue in South Philadelphia, police said.

The officers were taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania with head, neck, and back injuries and listed in stable condition, authorities said.

The police vehicle was responding to a call in the 1900 block of Dudley Street and traveling east on Snyder with lights and siren on, police said. Turning onto 23d, the car was struck in the rear by a minivan, causing the car to overturn.

The minivan's driver fled on foot before being apprehended and was taken to Methodist Hospital for evaluation, police said. - Jennifer Lin
