Posted: November 14, 2010

Williamstown captured its second girls' volleyball state championship in the program's 14-year history when the Braves swept Livingston, 2-0, Saturday at William Paterson University.

Kelsey DiVirgilio produced six kills and 10 digs, Brooke Hassan contributed 14 assists, two aces, and six digs, and Meg Kinee chipped in 10 digs.

Williamstown (31-2), which opened strong with a 25-13 victory, held off Livingston, 25-21, in the second game to win the Group 4 title.

Williamstown's other title came in Group 3 competition in 2006.

State Group 2. Northern Burlington's improbable playoff run, from an eighth seed in the sectional tournament to the fifth-year program's first berth in the state final, ended with a 2-0 loss to Ramapo, also at William Paterson.

Seniors Kelsey Kowalski and Vanessa Nwankwo combined for four kills and two blocks for the Greyhounds (19-5).
