PSU's Redd cited for public urination

The immediate status of Penn State freshman tailback Silas Redd is expected to be addressed today by coach Joe Paterno following a disorderly conduct citation Redd received from university police for public urination.

Redd was briefly detained by campus cops for allegedly urinating near the Agriculture Engineering Building at 4:13 a.m. Sunday morning, hours after the team returned from Columbus, Ohio, where it lost to Ohio State, 38-14. Such violations usually result in a fine, but Paterno also might elect to impose some form of team discipline.

Redd, from Norwalk, Conn., has emerged as the primary backup to senior starter Evan Royster. Royster was noticeably limping at the end of the Ohio State game, and another tailback, Stephfon Green, was slow to leave the field after a hard hit to the head area; his status for Saturday's game against Indiana is uncertain. Redd, who has 57 carries for 367 yards (an average of 6.4 yards) and one touchdown, was expected to play an even more prominent role against the Hoosiers, who are winless against Big Ten opponents.

In another matter, Penn State picked up its fifth oral commitment for the recruiting class of 2011, Anthony Alosi, a 6-6, 286-pound offensive lineman for the Hun School in Princeton, N.J. Alosi, graduate of Cherokee High, was offered a preferred walk-on slot at Penn State for this season, but chose to attend prep school. He gained an inch in height and 25 pounds, elevating his stock. *
