Dan Gross: Chef is loco over Loko

Posted: December 07, 2010

CHEF MATT LEVIN says he started stockpiling Four Loko (not tasty but, in our experience, not the Devil's drink that politicians and lazy media reports would have you believe) as soon as it started being banned nationwide.

And now on Monday, Levin is offering a Four Loko Dinner at Adsum (700 S. 5th), where he'll pair four dishes with four flavors of Four Loko. Two seatings, at 6 and 8 p.m., are offered at $35 a head.

The menu includes: Moroccan lamb "sausage and peppers" with Adsum's Loko Yoko cocktail; BBQ Picnic featuring Loko pearls and pickled watermelon rind, paired with Lemonade Loko; vanilla pain perdu with Loko slushy and gelée, served with Watermelon Loko; and Loko pate de fruit, with Fruit Punch Loko.

You will get wasted. To reserve, call 267-888-7002 or visit AdsumRestaurant.com.

WHAT up?

We hear WHAT (1340-AM), is up for sale. Asking price: $850,000.

The radio station, which says it plays "The Greatest Music of All Time," and features pictures of Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett alongside contemporary acts like Queen Latifah and Michael Buble on its site, has flipped names and formats a few times since January 2007. That's when Marconi Broadcasting took over WHAT, which had aired African-American talk radio for years.

In November 2006 Inner City sold to Marconi for $5 million, as the Daily News' Jonathan Takiff reported at the time. Now being offered for $850,000, we're told that if the station, which has slashed ad rates of late, doesn't find a buyer, it will shut down early next year.

WHAT execs have not returned requests for comment.

Out and about

Pete Rose wore a shirt embroidered with "Hit King" to dinner at Chops (7th & Walnut) the other night in a party of five. Charlie Hustle ate and drank well and was overheard discussing Baseball Hall

of Fame candidates with his guests. He left a nice tip.

* "Entourage" actress Dania Ramirez

did shots of Patron and sipped Grey Goose cocktails and Dom Perignon Rose at Dusk inside Caesars Atlantic City, where she hosted a party Saturday night. Ramirez, who played Turtle's girlfriend/ business partner last season, brought her sister and cousins to party with her.

* Sixers guard Lou Williams went for a

late dinner at Jones (7th & Chestnut) after Saturday's win over the Bobcats.

Worse than a gaper delay

6 ABC's morning-traffic reporter Matt Pellman said on air yesterday that he wasn't feeling well and was taking Hall's and hot tea.

He must have been telling the truth as Pellman, who works for Traffic.com, left the air after that announcement. 6 ABC's Karen Rogers took over and said Pellman had gone home.

Dobbs reopens

Jim Thorpe of Thorpe Productions and Dewey Beach Music Festivals and Vince Volz of Double V Bookings have formed a partnership to book bands at the Legendary Dobbs (304 South) which opens Dec. 18. It's the site of longtime Philly music staple J.C. Dobbs, which opened in 1974 and in the late 1990s became the Pontiac Grille, which closed in 2005. No schedule of events is posted yet at dobbsphilly.com, though the Dec. 18 opening date seems solid.

Design duo here

Designer Jonathan Adler and husband

Simon Doonan, creative director at Barney's, will attend the Dec. 15 private grand-opening party of Adler's new Old City boutique at 33 N. 3rd Street. Adler, who isn't from the area, is said to be an Eagles fan. The home-accessory-and-gifts boutique opens Monday and will be Adler's second-largest location of his 13 boutiques nationwide.

More locals on 'Millionaire'

Local defense lawyer Scott Reid, 37, a Chestnut Hill Academy graduate, is a contestant today and tomorrow on "Who Wants to be a Millionaire," (12:30 p.m., 6 ABC), and on Thursday and Friday Levittown's Craig Alcantara, 22, a Conwell-Egan Catholic grad, tries his luck against host Meredith Vieira.
