Temple coaching candidate drops out; Irish aide in mix?

Florida offensive coordinator Steve Addazio, who interviewed for the head coaching position at Temple this week, is apparently headed to Texas to coach the Longhorns' offensive line.

A source said it was unclear whether Addazio withdrew from consideration to replace Al Golden or was told that the university was looking in another direction.

Addazio, who is expected to be on the Florida sideline when the Gators meet Penn State in the Jan. 1 Outback Bowl, is not likely to return to the Gators next year with Will Muschamp taking over for Urban Meyer.

Meanwhile, Notre Dame offensive coordinator Charley Molnar is believed to have drawn the attention of Temple.

The 49-year-old Molnar, who attended Lock Haven, moved from Cincinnati to Notre Dame when Bearcats head coach Brian Kelly was named to the same position with the Irish.

Molnar was on Kelly's staff at Central Michigan when the Chippewas won the Mid-American Conference championship in 2006. At Central Michigan, Western Michigan, and Indiana State, Molnar tutored record-setting quarterbacks, including Central Michigan's Dan LeFevour, who is a backup on the Cincinnati Bengals.

Molnar also had stints at Lock Haven, Virginia, Western Carolina, Illinois State, Kent State, Eastern Illinois, and Eastern Michigan.

Currently in a "dead" period as deemed by the NCAA, coaches at Football Bowl Subdivision schools cannot go off campus to recruit until Jan. 4. Before then, Temple will have a new coach in place. National signing day is Feb. 2.
