Eagles Notes: Eagles' Allen done for the year

Posted: December 22, 2010

The Eagles placed rookie safety Nate Allen on injured reserve Tuesday, ending his season, and promoted a safety and defensive tackle from their practice squad.

Safety Jamar Wall and defensive tackle Jeff Owens were moved from the practice squad to the 53-man roster. The team also waived tight end Garrett Mills, who was inactive the last six games.

Allen had surgery Tuesday to repair his ruptured right patellar tendon. The surgery was performed by team physician Peter DeLuca of the Rothman Institute in Philadelphia. Allen, injured Sunday, faces a long road back. Complete recovery typically takes six months or more, according to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Wall will provide depth behind rookie Kurt Coleman and first-year player Colt Anderson at safety. He was a sixth-round choice by the Cowboys in 2010 and has played in one NFL game - with the Texans in the 2010 season opener. He has been on the Eagles' practice squad for 11 weeks.

Owens was a seventh-round pick in April and has spent the entire season on the practice squad.

The Eagles also brought back safety Jamar Adams to the practice squad. He was also on the practice squad for one week in September.

Celebration? Strategy?

DeSean Jackson weighed in Tuesday on the question of whether he was showboating or running out the clock as he pranced along the Giants' goal line before going in for the winning score Sunday. In an interview on ESPN's SportsCenter, he said he was doing a bit of both.

"I was trying to think about doing something crazy, but I just kind of kept it clean. I just wanted to make sure the clock was ran out and don't give them no time to go back out there and hopefully score on us," Jackson said. "I looked up and there was zero seconds left so I was like, 'Let me see what else I have in mind.' But from there I just ran into the end zone, man."

Time had expired long before Jackson reached the goal line - he was around the 20 when the clock hit 0:00. But, to be fair, it's possible he didn't have time to check the clock right away as he sprinted away from the Giants.

Graham surgery

Defensive end Brandon Graham had surgery Tuesday on his torn anterior cruciate ligament. James Andrews performed the surgery.

"Surgery went well up [smiling] as usual! Thanks everyone for the love!!" Graham wrote on his Twitter account Tuesday night.

Vick jerseys going fast

Michael Vick jerseys are selling fast, another sign of how fans have embraced the quarterback during his comeback season.

Over the last four weeks, different versions of Vick's jersey accounted for three of the NFL's top 10 sellers, by dollar amount, according to an analyst at SportsOneSource. Over the last four weeks, Vick's replica green jersey has been the NFL's best seller. His white youth replica ranked third and his black jersey was ninth.
