Scandalous sex tapes, adultery, and addiction ruled Celebdom in 2010. In other words, it was business as usual.

But beyond the squalor, the muck and mire, there burns Love. Love of lust, love of art, love of self, love of money, love of porn, love of controlled substances.

Here's a look at some of the more notable love stories of 2010.

Weddings! Weddings! Weddings!

For all the scandals, 2010 wrapped up all sugar: It was the year of a thousand engagements. Ah, but how many will actually marry?

Having washed Ryan Phillippe out of her hair, Reese Witherspoon got engaged to some anonymous industry guy named Jim Toth.

Story continues below.

Alicia Keys and music man Swizz Beatz announced in May that they were engaged and expecting. The couple had the unborn child blessed in a Zulu ceremony in South Africa. And Egypt Daoud Dean was born in October.

Natalie Portman picked French dancer - and Black Swan costar - Benjamin Millepied to marry. (They're also expecting a baby.)

LeAnn Rimes and Eddie Cibrian proved adultery can lead to happiness after all. The couple, who earlier in the year helped break up each other's marriages (to Dean Sheremet and Brandi Glanville, respectively, if not respectably), became engaged over the holidays.

Even that octogenarian satyr Hugh Hefner did the knee-drop, proposing on Christmas Eve to Playmate Crystal Harris. Guess the twice-divorced Hugh, 84, finally has found someone equal to his emotional maturity: Harris is 60 years younger. Will he perform a rare - and, for many of our readers, quite unthinkable - feat and sire a child? We shudder to think. Actor Tony Randall was a dad at 78. Novelist Saul Bellow was a dad at 84 . . . hey, who knows?

Bottling her love

The year's most passionate affair wasn't between a man and a woman - or two men, or two women - but between former Disney sweetie Lindsay Lohan and the bottle. Of booze or pills, take your pick. The year began with hope, as LiLo, 24, tweeted she'd said goodbye to all "the bad people, habits, and negative energy." Two rehabs and a jail sentence - for parole violation, of all things! - later, LiLo's future is looking a little sketchy.

Love, hard-core
