A 20-year-old college student died yesterday morning from injuries suffered when he fell 30 feet inside a campus fraternity house at the University of Pennsylvania during a New Year's Eve party.

Matt Crozier was rushed to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania from the Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity house after suffering severe head trauma when he fell in a stairway between the first and second floors of the house.

The frat house is in a privately owned residence on Locust Walk near 36th Street.

Crozier, a Philadelphia native, was a third-year student at John Carroll University, in University Heights, Ohio, and a member of the basketball team.

Crozier had attended La Salle College High School in Wyndmoor, Montgomery County, and was studying business management at JCU, according to the JCU athletic department website.

Penn officials are investigating the case and expressed their condolences to Crozier's family.

"This is a tragic loss, and our thoughts and prayers go out to the young man's family and friends," said Phyllis Holtzman, a Penn spokeswoman.

Alcohol was being served at the party, but it was unclear if it had anything to do with Crozier's death, police said.
