Phillies righthander Kyle Kendrick and outfielder Ben Francisco are among the major leaguers who were eligible to begin filing for salary arbitration yesterday. This is largely a technicality and players have until Feb. 15 to declare their intention.
The more significant date is Jan. 18, when the team and player each submit a blind salary figure. A three-man arbitration panel hears arguments from Feb. 1 to 21 and then must choose one figure or the other.
Players can sign at any time before the process begins and the Phillies have been historically successful at coming to terms with players before a hearing becomes necessary.
