'Jihad Jane' figure files notice to plead guilty

A Colorado woman charged in the "Jihad Jane" terrorism case has had a change of heart.

A notice filed in federal court Friday said that Jamie Paulin-Ramirez, 32, of Leadville, about 100 miles west of Denver, now intends to plead guilty Tuesday to one count of conspiring to provide material aid to terrorists. She had been expected to stand trial on May 2.

Jeremy Ibrahim, Paulin-Ramirez's attorney, confirmed that she would plead guilty, but he declined further comment.

Paulin-Ramirez surrendered to authorities here in April after returning from Ireland and has since been in federal custody.

Prosecutors say she exchanged e-mails in 2009 with co-defendant Colleen LaRose, who used the online monikers "Jihad Jane" and "Fatima LaRose," and later joined LaRose in Europe, allegedly to live and train with jihadists.

LaRose pleaded guilty Feb. 1 for her role in a terror plot to kill the Swedish cartoonist Lars Vilks. (Paulin-Ramirez was not involved in the plot to kill Vilks.)

Vilks had outraged Muslims around the world by drawing the prophet Muhammad with the body of a dog in 2007.
