Women's College Basketball: 'Nova reaches second round in Big East

Villanova outscored Providence by 10-4 in the final six minutes to force overtime before defeating the Friars, 52-50, in the first round of the Big East tournament on Friday in Hartford, Conn.

Devon Kane scored 13 points for the 14th-seeded Wildcats (12-18), including the final two of the game on a layup with just over a minute remaining. Villanova outscored No. 11 seed Providence, 6-4, in overtime. The Cats will face sixth-seeded Louisville on Saturday at 8 p.m.

In other Big East games:

Pittsburgh's Chelsea Cole hit a layup with 28 seconds left to lift the twelfth-seeded Panthers (14-16) past No. 13 seed South Florida (12-19), 63-60. Cole, who had 11 points and eight rebounds, added a free throw to go with her late layup.

No. 9 seed Syracuse (22-8) had four players score in double figures as it routed Seton Hall (8-22), the 16th seed, 74-44.

Asya Bussie scored 16 points and Liz Repella added 15 as 10th-seeded West Virginia (22-8) advanced with a 66-41 victory over 15th-seeded Cincinnati (9-19).

CACC. Goldey-Beacom (17-11) upset North No. 1 seed Bloomfield (19-9), 62-57, and earned the Lightning's first berth in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference championship game. Tournament host Holy Family, the South No. 1 seed, also reached the final, defeating Caldwell, 83-62, in the other semifinal. The title game is Saturday at 4 p.m.
