People have always mocked the life of the mind as unsexy and unprofitable. Then there was Snooki.

The Jersey Shore star not only has stunned critics with her debut novel A Shore Thing (get the clever wordplay? Shore!), she also has turned it into gold. Snooki was paid $32,000 to address students Thursday at Rutgers University in North Jersey.

As People points out, that's $2,000 more than Nobel-winner Toni Morrison will be paid to speak at the school's commencement in May.

Ms. Polizzi told an audience of 1,000 students how she maintains her hair pouf, how she lives an entirely GTL (gym, tan, laundry) life.

The philosopher's parting advice to the young scholars?

"Study hard, but party harder."

Gushy Confessions R Us

Two and a Half Men bossman Chuck Lorre doesn't want all your tears going to the show's fired star, Charlie Sheen. "I've been going through a tough time recently," Lorre said in one of those title-card thingies at the end of Thursday night's Big Bang Theory. The note is an odd, rambling, confusing stream-of-consciousness emotional emission. We're sorry he hurts.

Reality Traumas R Us

American Idol reject Thia Megia on Friday said she kept a brave face after her elimination Thursday.

"I felt a bit devastated last night, but I didn't cry for more than 15 minutes," she said. "I told myself that things happen for a reason. . . . this is definitely not the end of the road."

Thia plans to compile a list of 100 other cliches by Monday.

LiLo Detritus R Us

Authorities have released a tape of the 911 call that rehab worker Dawn Holland made on Dec. 12, which has her accusing Lindsay Lohan of hitting her. Prosecutors in Riverside County, Calif., say they will not prosecute LiLo for the alleged assault, due to insufficient evidence.

EntBiz movers 'n' shakers

HBO has three shows coming back this summer: Fangerrific soap True Blood will return for a fourth season on June 26; Larry David's Curb Your Enthusiasm for its eighth season on July 10; Entourage, also for its eighth, on July 24. . . . Matthew Morrison of Glee fame is going on tour! He'll hit the Mann Center for the Performing Arts in Philly on June 27. . . . TLC on Monday will begin showing new episodes of Kate Plus 8! They'll show Philly's proudest daughter, Kate Gosselin, and her kids visiting Australia and New Zealand.

Tidbits 'n' pieces

Usmagazine.com says princess-to-be Kate Middleton's fave burger, made at London eatery the Ebury Brasserie, has 805 calories. . . . Prince William has prewedding jitters. "I was telling everyone I did the rehearsal the other day, and my knees started tapping quite nervously," the royal darling recently told reporters at the Royal Air Force base in North Wales. . . . Victoria's Secret model Candice Swanepoel denies, most vehemently, rumors she is way too thin: "I am healthy and happy," she tells People.
