Hey, that's no way to set a positive example!

A man who sauntered into a K-mart in Northeast Philadelphia yesterday with a little girl in tow was caught on camera robbing the joint.

At 9:20 a.m. the man walked into the K-mart on Roosevelt Boulevard near Welsh Road with a girl about 3 or 4 years old, said Sgt. Joseph Green, of Northeast Detectives.

Story continues below.

He bee-lined his way toward the jewelry section clutching the girl's hand.

The man, clad in a dark-blue jacket with two white stripes on both sleeves, pulled out a screwdriver and pried open a counter-top jewelry display as the girl stood next to him.

"This is absolutely ridiculous," Northeast Detective Christopher Gilman told 6ABC.

The man, who is about 30 years old, 5 feet 11 and wore a goatee, snatched $3,000 worth of jewelry and walked out of the store. He fled in a gold Ford Taurus east on Brous Avenue, police said.

Green said that particular store experiences a lot of retail thefts.

K-mart shoppers couldn't believe that the man was brazen enough to rob a store in front of a child.

"That's awful," said Gerry Dobbins, who gasped at the news as she made her way to the parking lot last night. "That's terrible, especially to bring [a little girl] with you. That's pretty low."

Anyone with information about the identity of the man can contact Northeast Detectives at 215-686-3153.
