It didn't take long for New York Red Bulls highly touted midfielder Dwayne De Rosario to make an impact. Acquired last Friday from Toronto FC, De Rosario was inserted in the second half of Saturday's 1-1 tie with Houston. In the 47th minute, he recorded an assist on Dane Richards' goal.

De Rosario was dealt by Toronto following a contract dispute. He didn't want to get into the matter during a conference call this week, saying that things couldn't be worked out in Ontario and that he was happy to be in New York.

"I am looking forward to my time here and a fresh start," he said.

Red Bulls coach Hans Backe said he didn't expect De Rosario to take long to mesh with his teammates.

"I don't think he needs any time," Backe said in a phone interview. "When you have that knowledge and understanding of the game, those kinds of players will fit in right away."

De Rosario has been a member of four MLS championship teams, in 2001 and 2003 with San Jose and 2006 and 2007 with Houston.

"Everybody is going to see a bit of a new-look Red Bulls team on Saturday because of De Rosario, and you saw a little bit of it in the second half against Houston," Union assistant coach John Hackworth said. "He brings something different to their team."
