Ramon Galloway, a Philadelphia native who was South Carolina's third-leading scorer this season, will be transferring to La Salle, a source said.
The 6-2 guard will have to sit out a year and will be eligible for the start of the 2012-13 season. He averaged 10.7 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists as a sophomore but started only four games. He began the year as a reserve while recovering from a broken foot suffered when he kicked an object in frustration, but played in all 30 games.
In 61 career games over two seasons, he averaged 9.3 points.
Coach Darrin Horn had been critical of Galloway late in the season, saying he had expected more from him. Galloway is among seven players who have left the South Carolina program for a variety of reasons since Horn replaced Dave Odom after the 2007-08 season.
"I have enjoyed my 2 years here at the University of South Carolina," Galloway said when his transfer was announced late last month. "At this time, I'm going to transfer to another university. I'm looking for a different opportunity and role."
Galloway played the 2006-07 season as a sophomore at Freire Charter before moving to Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
He was named the South Florida Sun Sentinel Class 6A-5A-4A Player of the Year after averaging 17.8 points, 7.2 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game while leading Dwyer High to the 5A state semifinals as a senior.
