Temple's Allen is Big Five player of the year

Posted: April 13, 2011

Temple coach Fran Dunphy has a lot of admiration for what Lavoy Allen did as an Owl. Apparently, so does the Herb Good Basketball Club.

On Monday, the club named Allen the Big Five's outstanding player of the year.

The 6-foot-9 senior power forward will receive the Robert V. Geasey Trophy at the Big Five banquet April 25 at the Liacouras Center.

The Pennsbury High graduate averaged 11.6 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks this season. At one point, Allen posted seven straight double-doubles en route to finishing with 13.

One of his most memorable performances came in the Owls' 57-41 victory at George Washington. Allen scored on a variety of moves and even drained his lone three-point attempt en route to game highs of 19 points and 16 rebounds.

Temple guard Ramone Moore, Penn point guard Zack Rosen, and Villanova guards Corey Fisher and Corey Stokes join Allen on the all-Big Five first team.

The second team consists of Villanova guard Maalik Wayns, Temple guard Juan Fernandez, St. Joseph's guard Carl Jones, Penn forward Jack Eggleston, and La Salle center Aaric Murray.

Tickets for the Big Five banquet can be reserved by contacting Temple's Al Shrier at 215-651-1821 or ashrier5@temple.edu.
