Soul vs. San Jose preview

Posted: April 22, 2011

Soul (1-4) at San Jose (4-2)

When: Tonight, 10:30

Where: HP Pavillion, San Jose

TV/Radio: WMCN/None.

Series: San Jose has won two of three regular-season meetings, but the Soul beat the SaberCats to win the 2008 ArenaBowl.

About the Soul: Are in the middle of a four-game losing streak. The last three have come in the closing seconds . . . Traded defensive lineman Cameron Bright to New Orleans this week for future considerations and have underachieving wide receiver Larry Brackins on the block as well. As long as the losses continue, so will the roster changes . . . Donovan Morgan is second among AFL receivers in yards (661) and yards per catch (15.7) . . . Soul coach Mike Hohensee is 0-3 in games at San Jose.

About the SaberCats: This will be San Jose's fifth home game in 7 weeks. They are 3-1 at the HP . . . Mark Greib, who was under center for the SaberCats during that ArenaBowl loss to the Soul, still is one of the best quarterbacks in Arena. He picked up his 100th victory as a starter last week . . . Eddie Moten, a member of the Soul's championship team, has two interceptions for San Jose . . . Fullback Chad Cook leads the league with 14 rushing touchdowns . . . San Jose is third in the league with an average of 60.5 points per game. The Soul are 13th at 45.8.

Poll position: The Soul are one of six teams with an AFL worst 1-4 record and obviously are not ranked in the weekly coaches' poll. San Jose is ranked 6th. Arizona (5-0), the league's only undefeated team, is No. 1.

Up next: The Soul are back on the road for a game at Iowa on Saturday, April 30 (8 p.m., WMCN). The Barnstormers (2-3) play at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
