Cops nab suspect in subway entrance shooting

A 17-YEAR-OLD boy shot a man in the head during a daylight robbery Saturday on the steps of SEPTA's Broad Street line, police said. Miraculously, the victim survived.

Within hours, the teen was captured during a routine car stop in North Philadelphia, according to police.

About 3:24 p.m. Saturday, the 22-year-old victim was descending the subway stairs at the Susquehanna-Dauphin station, at Broad Street near Susquehanna Avenue, in North Philadelphia, when he was approached by the teen, who pointed a revolver at him and demanded his belongings, police said.

The two got into a tussle, during which the victim was struck several times on the back of the head with the gun before the assailant fired the weapon and hit the victim in the back of the head, police said.

It's unclear whether the victim suffered a graze wound or a deeper injury, but he was able to speak with responding officers at the scene and identify his attacker, police said. Yesterday, he was listed in stable condition at Temple University Hospital.

Meanwhile, the teen shooter ran away, police said. Sometime early yesterday, that teen was a passenger in a car that was pulled over by police on 17th Street near Diamond in North Philadelphia, police said.

He was taken into custody, but his identity was not released because of his age. The teen is expected to be charged with robbery, aggravated assault and related offenses.
