SEPTA rescues passengers on stranded train

Posted: April 26, 2011

SEPTA commuters stuck aboard a stranded train along the Wilmington/Newark Line for more than an hour Tuesday night have been rescued, a SEPTA spokeswoman said.

Heading toward Marcus Hook, the train stalled near the Darby station about 7 p.m. due to a power outage, said Jerri Williams, the spokeswoman.

The outage was caused when an Amtrak Silver Star train caught fire at the Wilmington station, she said.

No injuries were reported.

The outage forced SEPTA to suspend service to and from Philadelphia International Airport and along the Wilmington/Newark Line, she said.

By 8:30 p.m., the 115 passengers on the stranded train had been loaded onto a train on a parallel track on which power had resumed, she said.
