Joe Barth Sr. founded the Brooklawn American Legion baseball team in 1952.

Sixty years later, the program and its veteran coach are still going strong.

Now 89, Barth will be honored at a celebration of the program's 60th year on May 14 at 8 p.m. at the Brooklawn Legion Hall.

Tickets to the event are $20. Contact DGBarth@aol.com or (856) 931-9382 for more information.

Brooklawn is believed to be the oldest, most successful, independent sports program in South Jersey. Brooklawn has won 24 American Legion state titles and 12 regional titles as well as World Series championships in 1991 and 2001.

This year's Brooklawn team - the nucleus of which will be formed from the Gloucester Catholic team that is coached by Dennis Barth, Joe Barth Sr.'s son, and is ranked No. 1 in South Jersey by The Inquirer - is expected to be a strong contender for state and regional titles.
