Earlier Monday, Holmgren said Pronger was "OK" even though the defenseman didn't take part in the morning skate. In the final minutes of the Flyers' 7-3 loss to the Bruins Saturday in Game 1, Pronger went up the tunnel to the locker room rather than remain on the bench with his teammates, an indication that something was wrong.
There has been speculation by some media outlets that the 36-year-old Pronger is having back problems.
Pronger has played three games since his return, but his ice time has been limited. In Game 6 against Buffalo in the first round, Pronger played only 4 minutes, 33 seconds, all on the power play. His ice time increased to 17:27 in Game 7, when he had an assist on a power play, and to 19:45 in Game 1 against the Bruins.
But Pronger struggled against Boston. He finished with an uncharacteristic minus-3 and didn't appear to be as mobile as usual.
The Flyers have been evasive about Pronger's condition since he was hit in the right hand with a slapshot during a game against the Islanders on Feb. 24. Pronger had surgery to repair the broken hand on March 17.
Pronger missed 32 games during the regular season because of injuries. He had surgery on Dec. 17 to repair a broken bone in his foot and missed 13 games.
Pronger averaged 25:55 of ice time during last season's run to the Stanley Cup Finals. He is in the second year of a seven-year contract reportedly worth $35 million.
Pronger's spot was filled by Danny Syvret, who played in the first seven playoff games.
