Perri more than 'Glee'-ful
Tomorrow is a big day for Bensalem native Christina Perri. Her debut album, "Lovestrong," will be released and her hit single "Jar of Hearts" will be featured on "Glee," performed by Lea Michelle in the prom episode of the Fox hit. Perri, 24, a 2004 Archbishop Ryan graduate, will also be seen on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" on Friday, on "Today" on May 17 and on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" on May 18.
Schoolly D joins movie cast
How authentic could a movie centered on Philadelphia hip-hop be without Schoolly D? The rap pioneer, from 52nd and Parkside, just shot a fight scene for "Must Be the Music," which actor/filmmaker Charles S. Dutton continues to shoot in the area. Schoolly, a/k/a Jesse B. Weaver, plays himself, as an artist on Dutton's character Big Mike's label in the hip-hop murder mystery that is still shooting at Sigma Sound Studios (212 N. 12th). Dutton "really respects rap and he respects us," Schoolly said Friday. "Everyone is making it as entertaining as possible but also as real as possible."
As for keeping it real playing himself, Schoolly said that that wasn't hard. "I've been playing myself for 30 years," he said of his long musical career.
Felicia "Snoop" Pearson from "The Wire" and Tariq Trotter, a/k/a Black Thought, of the Roots, co-star in the film, as do Jadakiss, Trina and Ms. Jade.
Schoolly, who also just recorded a few songs for "444," an upcoming Abel Ferrara film starring Willem Dafoe, is back this week shooting a live music scene that he will probably freestyle. "I'm a ham. I'm always ready for anything," he says.
