A 4-year-old boy who was found wandering alone and sobbing in Upper Darby's 69th Street Terminal Sunday led police to his father, who had overdosed on heroin in a bathroom while the kid was by his side, police said.

Adam Pugliese, 29, of Pottstown, arrived in Upper Darby by train at about 1:30 p.m. and took his son into a public bathroom with him. The dad shot up then lost consciousness, Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood said.

The child wandered out of the bathroom, bawling and asking for help, Chitwood said. Police followed the boy back to the bathroom and found Pugliese passed out with a hypodermic needle and a bag of heroin.

"This guy is such a creep that he would shoot up in a public bathroom with his kid with him," Chitwood said. "That's insane."

Medics were able to revive Pugliese with two shots of Narcan, a drug typically used for heroin overdoses, Chitwood said.

Police took custody of the boy, who was eventually handed over to his grandmother. Police do not know the whereabouts of the child's mother, Chitwood said.

Pugliese was charged with drug violations and endangering the welfare of a child and was being held in Delaware County Prison, Chitwood said.
