CasiNotes: This is no Zonk: 'Let's Make a Deal' is in Atlantic City

May 13, 2011

THE RECENT six-week run of "The Price Is Right Live" starring Joey Fatone at Bally's Atlantic City was a virtual sellout. So how does the midtown gaming hall follow such a tough act?

The answer begins tomorrow as Bally's raises the curtain on "Let's Make a Deal Live," which is booked through June 22 at the Palace Theater inside the Claridge Tower. Serving as emcee for the entire run will be TV's Alan Thicke ("Growing Pains").

As "Price Is Right" did with its template," "Deal" will closely follow the TV version of the '60s-born game show hosted for years by Monty Hall. Audience members who are selected will vie for prizes - valuable and silly - by doing such things as producing items ($100 for a driver's license) or by selecting blind items.

Story continues below.

And as Hall did - and current TV host Wayne Brady does - Thicke will kibbitz with those selected to participate.

Although audience members are certainly encouraged to wear crazy costumes (à la the TV show), wacky wardrobes are not required. Instead, participants will be selected in a preshow random drawing. Folks wishing to be part of the action are instructed to arrive at the box office (adjacent to the Palace Theater) at least three hours before the performance. You do not need to purchase a ticket to be selected to play; buying one will not increase your chances of being chosen.

No one under 21 is eligible to compete. A complete guide to the program's rules and regulations is available at the box office.

And just in case you're wondering what Bally's will do after "Let's Make a Deal" closes, be advised the casino has booked the "Legends in Concert" mimic-fest for a summerlong run. But also know that FremantleMedia North America, the entertainment conglomerate that owns the rights to "Price" and "Deal" (and produces "American Idol" and the upcoming Simon Cowell-supervised "X Factor") is also the company behind "Family Feud."

Just sayin' . . .

Bally's Atlantic City, Boardwalk at Park Place, 7:30 p.m. Saturday-Tuesday, 2 and 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, $25 and $20, 800-736-1420, ticketmaster.com.

King is coming

And speaking of TV personalities, tomorrow night, recently retired CNN interviewer Larry King hits the Music Box at Borgata Hotel, Casino & Spa.
