Four Daily News staffers, including Pulitzer Prize winners Barbara Laker and Wendy Ruderman, have won prestigious 2010 Sigma Delta Chi awards for journalism.

The Sigma Delta Chi awards are presented by the Society of Professional Journalists and reward excellence in journalism supporting the free flow of information in a free society.

Laker and Ruderman, along with City Hall reporter Catherine Lucey, won the 2010 Sigma Delta Chi award for nondeadline reporting among newspapers with a daily circulation of 100,000 or more for their coverage of the scandal at the Philadelphia Housing Authority. They won for their stories on the alleged sexual harassment of employees by fired PHA chief Carl Greene and alleged misuse of taxpayer funds.

Sportswriter Mark Kram took the 2010 Sigma Delta Chi feature-reporting prize for "Paco's 2nd Round: How a boxer's death gave life to 5 others," a story about organ donation.

Last year, Laker and Ruderman won the Pulitzer Prize for investigative journalism for "Tainted Justice," a series of stories that exposed a rogue police narcotics squad.

Lucey, Laker and Ruderman earlier won the 2011 Spotlight Award in a statewide contest from the Keystone Society of Professional Journalists for their PHA coverage.

They were among 11 first-place honors, nine second-place honors, a third-place award and seven honorable mentions in the Keystone contest won by the Daily News.
