Explosion reported in N.E. Philly, quake eyed

Posted: May 27, 2011

Police and fire department officials were responding late Friday night to calls about an explosion of some kind in Northeast Philadelphia, and then were reportedly seeking help from the U.S. Geological Survey to determine if the disturbance was a minor earthquake.

Police said they received multiple calls about explosions from callers near Northeast Philadelphia Airport just before 10 p.m.

However, once they arrived on the scene, officials did not find any smoke or fire in the area.

Officials were unsure what led to reports of an explosion, and were on the scene investigating.
