76ers to look at Markieff Morris

Posted: June 15, 2011

The 76ers will host five prospects in their fifth pre-draft workout Wednesday morning at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

The group is headlined by 6-foot-9 forward Markieff Morris, a former Prep Charter star. Morris and his twin brother, Marcus, declared for the draft after their junior seasons at Kansas.

The NBA draft is scheduled for June 23. The Sixers hold a first-round pick, No. 16 overall, and a second-round pick (50th overall).

Wednesday's workout will include forwards Tyler Honeycutt (UCLA), Antonio Pena (Villanova), Eniel Polynice (Seton Hall), and Morris, along with shooting guard Xavier Silas (Northern Illinois).

Morris and Honeycutt are the only potential first-round picks in the group. Morris, who averaged 13.6 points and 8.3 rebounds last season for the Jayhawks, is projected to be a mid-to-late first-round selection. Honeycutt, a small forward who left UCLA after his sophomore season, is thought to be on the first-round bubble.

The Sixers have made it clear they are leaning toward selecting a big man with their first-round pick. Among the prospects working out on Wednesday, Morris is likely the most promising candidate. - Kate Fagan
