OCEAN CITY, N.J. - A Gloucester County woman has been crowned Miss New Jersey. Katharyn Nicolle, 20, of Wenonah, won the title Saturday night at the Ocean City Music Pier, beating out 22 other contestants.

The first runner-up was 23-year-old Roopali Pendse of Morris Plains. Nicolle, who attends Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa., is an environmental enthusiast whose service platform will be "Reading for the Right Reason."

She won a $10,000 scholarship and will compete in the Miss America Pageant, which will be held in Las Vegas in January. Nicolle, who performed a ballet routine in the talent competition, succeeds last year's winner, Ashleigh Udalovas of Millville. - AP
