Defensive linemen choose Penn State

Penn State received verbal commitments from two defensive tackles over the weekend at its annual senior camp.

Austin Johnson, from St. Augustine Prep in Richland, N.J., and Derek Dowrey, from John Handley High in Winchester, Va., became the ninth and 10th players to commit for the Class of 2012; four of the 10 players have been defensive linemen.

Johnson, 6-4, 275, also plays guard but was recruited on the defensive side of the ball. He told the recruiting website Lions247.com that he had offers from Boston College, Rutgers, Syracuse, Villanova and Tulane.

Dowrey, 6-3, 290, had 145 tackles and 10 1/2 sacks as a junior last fall. He reportedly had offers from West Virginia, Ohio, East Carolina, Marshall and Richmond.
