Phillies place Victorino on disabled list

Posted: July 08, 2011

Center fielder Shane Victorino was placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 4, with a ligament sprain in his right thumb, Assistant General Manager Scott Proefrock announced Friday.

To fill his spot on the 25-man roster, the Phillies recalled infielder Pete Orr from triple-A Lehigh Valley.

In 68 games this season, Victorino is batting .303 with 14 doubles, nine home runs, 34 RBI and 13 stolen bases. He leads the Phillies in runs (53) and triples (9) despite missing 14 games earlier this season with a right hamstring strain (May 19 - June 2). Victorino earned a spot on the National League All-Star roster yesterday via MLB's Final Vote.

Orr has appeared in 26 games with the Phillies this season, all at second base, batting .230 with three doubles and three RBI in 61 at-bats. In 373 career major league games, Orr has appeared at second base, third base, shortstop, left field and right field. The 32-year-old was previously optioned to Lehigh Valley on May 22, where he hit .261 with three home runs and 10 RBI in 35 games for the IronPigs.
