John A. McGhee, 51, of Southampton, a funeral director, died of an apparent heart attack Wednesday, July 27, at James J. McGhee Funeral Home in Southampton.

Mr. McGhee graduated from Archbishop Wood High School in Warminster and earned a degree in mortuary science from Northampton County Community College. He then became a funeral director at the funeral home that his father established in 1964.

Mr. McGhee had been deputy coroner for Bucks County since 1980. He was a member of the Bucks County Funeral Directors Association and was past president of the Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Association.

He was past president of the Southampton Lions Club and was active with the Lions Eye Bank of Delaware Valley.

Mr. McGhee was involved in the Southampton Days Fourth of July celebration and judged the children's bike parade competition.

An avid golfer, he was a member of the Old York Road Country Club in Ambler and played in a Monday night golf league at Bensalem Township Country Club.

Mr. McGhee is survived by his wife of 29 years, Robin Carson McGhee; sons Patrick and Brendon; his mother, Isabelle Curry McGhee; and two brothers. His father died in January.

Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, at the James J. McGhee Funeral Home, Second Street Pike and Belmont Avenue, Southampton. A Funeral Mass will be said at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 611 Knowles Ave., Southampton, Pa. 18966. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Bensalem.

Donations may be made to the church, where Mr. McGhee was a lector, eucharistic minister, and member of the pastoral council.
