Races end early for these four

WELL, THAT was quick.

Four city political hopefuls yesterday watched their campaigns end well short of the finish line.

The departed included:

* Jim Foster, a Germantown newspaper publisher who was running as an independent for City Council in the 8th Councilmanic District.

Common Pleas Judge Allan Tereshko ruled that Foster didn't have enough valid signatures on his nominating petition.

Foster's two opponents - Green Party candidate Brian Rudnick and Democrat Cindy Bass - had filed challenges against him.

Foster had also filed a challenge against Rudnick, noting that he had not been officially endorsed by the Green Party.

"They got the law wrong," Tereshko said of Foster's challenge.

"[Rudnick] is a registered member of the the Green Party, which is the only qualification to run for office."

* Richie Antipuna, a Green Party candidate who was running for City Commissioner.

In a news release, Antipuna said he decided to withdraw from the race because he faced challenges over whether he had registered with the Green Party before the May primary election.

* Rhaim Dawkins and reportedly Bobby Curry, both of whom were running for City Council in the 9th Councilmanic District.

Tereshko ruled that neither candidate could appear on the ballot as an independent because they previously tried to run as Democrats.
