Holder back as Union's third-string goalie

The second coming of Thorne Holder in a Union uniform has arrived and is likely to be on display tonight in Harrisburg.

Holder, 26, the club's third-string goalkeeper, was released late last month, but was reacquired Monday from USL Pro squad FC New York. Holder will suit up for the club's annual friendly against its minor league affiliate Harrisburg City Islanders at the Skyline Sports Complex (7 p.m.).

Holder played five matches for New York, posting a 1.20 goals against average, as well as a pair of shutouts.

"I was bit unsettled over the past 3 weeks during my stint with FC New York," Holder said. "It's not MLS. It was vital to get games in and stay healthy, but I won't miss 14-hour bus rides to Ohio, which I had to do twice. But I had a couple of decent games, especially one [on Aug. 5] against Harrisburg, which I think was one of my best games ever [resulting in a scoreless draw].

Tonight's friendly arrives in the thick of an MLS playoff chase. On minimal rest, the Union hosts New England at PPL Park on Sunday (7 p.m., Comcast SportsNet).
