BEAUTY AND THE Baseball Player have called it quits. New York Yankee (booo!) Derek Jeter, 37, and actress Minka Kelly, 31, (best known for playing cheerleader Lyla Garrity on the dearly departed TV show "Friday Night Lights") have broken off their three-year relationship, according to JustJared.

"They care about each other and it was amicable," a source told JustJared. "They're still friends. They still really care for each other."

Reps for the stars wouldn't officially confirmed the split, but they are known for keeping their relationship private. Both Kelly and Jeter are staying busy. Kelly is in Miami filming the new reboot for "Charlie's Angels" that premieres Sept. 22 on ABC. And Jeter is apparently an OK baseball player.

But did Esquire and People magazines curse the Kelly-Jeter affair? This year, Esquire named Kelly the Sexiest Woman Alive. Last year, Ryan Reynolds was named People's Sexiest Man Alive right before his split from wife Scarlett Johansson (who took home the Esquire honor in 2006). And get this: Jeter was also featured in the Sexiest People issue.

Is their breakup the media's fault? Or couldn't Kelly and Jeter handle that much sexy?

Love bites

* Actors Melissa Gilbert and Bruce Boxleitner have announced they will divorce after 16 years of marriage. Former "Little House on the Prairie" star Gilbert cited irreconcilable differences in the papers and will seek joint custody of her 15-year-old son Michael (named after "Prairie" patriarch Michael Landon) with Boxleitner, who most recently appeared in "Tron: Legacy."

It hasn't been a good week for the Gilbert clan in the name of love. Gilbert's sister, Sara Gilbert, a/k/a Darlene Connor of "Roseanne" fame, recently announced that she'll be separating from longtime partner Allison Adler after 10 years and two children together.

Gilbert currently co-hosts CBS' "The Talk." The show recently announced Kris Jenner (mother to Kim/Khloe/Kourtney/etc.) and comedian Sheryl Underwood will join the roundtable. Our condolences go out to Ms. Gilbert for having to spend time with Kris Jenner.

* Stars! They're just like us. Us Weekly claims that Ashlee Simpson is guilty of drunk-dialing soon-to-be ex-hubs Pete Wentz, begging the former Fall Out Boy to return to her, even though she's dating "Boardwalk Empire" actor Vincent Piazza. Simpson's rep denies the claim but, girl, we've been there. We've all been there.

* At least someone is lucky in love this week. The New York Post reports that Alec Baldwin has moved out of his $9.5 million Central Park West pad to move in with his new lady love, Hilaria Thomas, a 27-year-old yoga instructor. Baldwin has not only purchased a SoHo apartment for him and his "happy baby," but he'll also hear wedding bells in the not-to-distant future.

* Speaking of moves, Denise Richards is moving her brood into a home owned by ex Charlie Sheen in the same gated community where Sheen resides. In fact, it's about six houses away from his abode. TMZ reports that the couple get along famously now, and Sheen wants to spend more time with their kids, Sam, 7, and Lola, 6. Sheen purchased the home earlier this year.

But that's not all: Sheen is apparently on the lookout for another crib in his exclusive 'hood for another ex, the embattled Brooke Mueller, mom to Sheen's 3-year-old twins, Bob and Max. Word is he wants his former ladies close so he can spend more time with the kids. Look, ladies, we get it. Father figures are important to children. But is this father figure a good idea?
