SANTA ANA, Calif. - The FBI said former NBA player Javaris Crittenton has been arrested in Southern California to face a murder charge in a deadly Atlanta shooting.

FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said Crittenton was taken into custody at about 8 p.m. Monday at John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana after checking in for a Delta Air Lines flight to Atlanta.

Eimiller says he was arrested without incident by FBI agents with assistance from the Orange County Sheriff's Department.

She says he will be held overnight in police custody.

Earlier, Crittenton's attorney Brian Steel saidhis client planned to surrender to authorities in Atlanta on Tuesday.

Steel said Crittenton is innocent. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution first reported details of the planned surrender.

Crittenton was most recently with the Washington Wizards. The NBA suspended him after he and teammate Gilbert Arenas said they brought guns into the locker room.

Atlanta police earlier obtained a murder warrant for Crittenton in the Aug. 19 shooting of 22-year-old Jullian Jones. Police say Jones was walking with two men when she was shot and they believe one of the men with her was the target.

Knicks hire Woodson. The New York Knicks hired the former Atlanta Hawks coach Mike Woodson on Monday as an assistant to Mike D'Antoni.
