Fri. Pa. boys’ roundup: Kennett, Springfield reach final

Kennett and Springfield (Delaware County) are headed for a championship showdown after each won semifinal games in the Coatesville Boys' Soccer Tournament on Friday.

Kennett needed Jake Tully's goal 3 minutes into overtime to squeeze past Ephrata, 1-0. Jonathan Leon guarded the Blue Demons' net.

Springfield, which will face Kennett for the title at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, got a pair of second-half goals by Jesse Stewart 11 minutes apart to put the finishing touches on a 4-1 first-round win over host Coatesville. Kyle Chevalier and Luke Krauter netted first-half scores.

W.C. Henderson Tournament. Henderson advanced with a 3-0 first-round win over Perkiomen Valley as Sean Engle, Jason Hall and Demetrius Burkenstock scored goals.

Malvern Prep converted first-half goals by Ken DeStefano, Ian McLarney and Melvin Snoh (two assists) into a 3-2 semifinal win over Radnor.

Salisbury Tournament. Ryan Flanagan assisted on goals by Sean Carpenter and A.B. Winter as Marple Newtown won its semifinal game, 2-1, over Northwestern.

Public League. Kevin Kureta's goal in the 10th minute of the second half was all Northeast needed to trip host Central, 1-0.

Lincoln's 6-2 win over visiting Frankford featured two goals apiece by Danny Montano and Tasham Abdulrasool.

Harry Taggart's second goal of the game was scored 8:30 into overtime, making Masterman a 2-1 winner over visiting Bartram.

Swenson outlasted host Franklin Towne Charter, 3-2, in overtime as Nick Bica provided all three goals, including the unassisted game-winner from the top of the box.

Washington also won by 3-2, edging visiting Prep Charter with a three-goal game by freshman halfback Mohammed Cunde.

Fernando Bella's hat trick, and Abraham Kamara's goal and three assists highlighted Dels' 8-0 win over visiting Philadelphia Academy Charter.

Nonleague. Matt Miller got loose for a goal with 18 minutes left and boosted Germantown Academy past host Archbishop Wood, 1-0.

Ridley goalie Andrew Raudabaugh earned a shutout and also helped the offense by converting a penalty kick in a 2-0 win at Glen Mills. Marcos Rojas scored the first goal from John Saunders, and Raudabaugh (five saves) scored after a takedown in the box.

Garnet Valley's Chris Miele snapped a 1-1 deadlock with the game-winning goal in the first half as the visiting Jaguars topped Avon Grove, 3-1. Eric Carey contributed two assists.
