Tattle: Kevin Smith has hateful church seeing 'Red'

September 06, 2011|By Howard Gensler

KEVIN SMITH ("Clerks," "Dogma") has been talking with God - and then passing on The Word to TMZ.com.

The conversations have been in response to the Westboro Baptist Church's comments about Smith's new film, "Red State," and Westboro's calling Smith "a God-hating clown."

(Tattle question: Are there people who "hate" God? Generally folks are divided into believers, atheists and agnostics, but we've never heard even the most vocal atheists claim that they "hate" God.)

Smith, by the way, is a Catholic, and, as far as we know, a believer. That came up when he made "Dogma." This movie is about a fanatical church whose members kill "sinners."

Story continues below.

A Westboro Church spokesperson says, "God hates fags, God hates fag enablers; therefore God hates Kevin Smith."

That's a lot of hate for an all-loving entity.

As for Smith, he has his own pipeline and he's not worried about Westboro picketing his film - after all, it has military funerals to picket.

Smith told TMZ, "Jesus told me he loved 'Red State.' He said it makes up for 'Cop Out.' He also said neither He nor His Heavenly Father has any affiliation with the Westboro Baptist Church."

Smith also wants Westboro to know, " 'Red State' is available now on VOD."

Lauren marries Lauren

Model Lauren Bush, the granddaughter and niece, respectively, of former presidents George H.W. and George W. Bush, has married David Lauren, the son of fashion mogul Ralph Lauren.

The couple wed Sunday in a Jewish ceremony at Ralph's Colorado ranch, and Lauren was walked down the aisle by her divorced parents, Sharon and Neil Bush.

Former President George H.W. and Barbara Bush were unable to attend due to the ranch's high altitude, but sent a video message played at Saturday's rehearsal dinner. Former president George W. Bush, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and their families did attend.

Did Lauren wear another Vera Wang gown like recent brides Kim Kardashian and Petra Ecclestone? Heck, no. The New York Post reported that she wore a Victorian-style gown designed by father-in-law Ralph.

Lauren Bush previously told Harper's Bazaar that she would probably go by the name of Lauren Bush-Lauren and not Lauren Lauren.

Lucci raises Kane

Susan Lucci, Erica Kane of "All My Children," has added an epilogue to the paperback edition of her memoir All My Life, and the New York Post says that it rips ABC execs for canceling her long-running soap.
