Holmgren injured

FLYERS General Manager Paul Holmgren was listed in stable condition at Cooper Medical Center in Camden last night after a scary end to the Labor Day holiday.

Holmgren, 55, was injured in a bicycle accident yesterday while exercising in Avalon, N.J.

Exact details and the cause of the accident remained unclear last night, but Holmgren was admitted to the hospital with multiple fractures and cuts that required stitches. Holmgren was reportedly wearing his helmet.

The Flyers issued no statement or comment about Holmgren's health, though a few of his players took to Twitter.

"Heard about 'Holmer' earlier today, was waiting to comment on it until the media found out," defenseman Matt Carle (@MattCarle25) posted last night. "Hope he's doing alright (sic). Scary, scary situation."

"I hope Paul is all right and gets well soon," goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov (@bryzgoalie30) tweeted.

Holmgren, a St. Paul, Minn., native, will begin his sixth season as Flyers' GM later this month. He served four seasons as the Flyers' head coach and held various positions in the team's front office after spending eight full seasons as a player. He resides in Somerdale, N.J., with his wife, Doreen.
