Southeastern Pa. Field Hockey Players to Watch

Brooke Sabia, Mount St. Joseph, Sr., midfielder. She opened the season with a hat trick in the Magic's 4-0 shutout of Pennsbury. Her speed and quickness enable her to be bold and aggressive on the field. She's headed to Massachusetts on a scholarship.

Allie Sabia, Mount St. Joseph, Sr., midfielder. A mirror image of her twin, Allie had a goal in the win over Pennsbury. She will join Brooke at Massachusetts. Like Brooke, she can outrun and outmaneuver most of her opponents.

Story continues below.

Caroline Troncelliti, Villa Maria Academy, Sr., forward. Troncelliti was among the area's top scorers last season with 34 goals. If the Hurricanes are going to add another District 1 Class AA championship to their laurels, she will have to have another big season.

Haley Swartz, Downingtown East, Sr., midfielder. Swartz has been a four-year starter for East and coach Stephanie Sheils. The Quinnipiac-bound Swartz had nine goals and six assists last season, when the Cougars finished 14-5-1.

Lauren Becker, Wissahickon, Sr., midfielder. Lauren Luft, the Trojans' first-year coach, will be counting heavily on Becker as she closes out what has been an outstanding career. One of the area's top players since she was a freshman, Becker has shown that she can play anywhere.

Emily Hitchings, Upper Dublin, Sr., forward. Hitchings was a 17-goal scorer last season. The Cardinals will need key contributions from her if they are to overtake Wissahickon in the Suburban One League American Division race.

Casey Umstead, Upper Perkiomen, So., midfielder. With 13 goals, Umstead showed she was ready to play last season as a freshman. She helped lead the Indians to a 14-7 mark and a trip to the state playoffs.

Jessica McCarthy. Haverford, Jr., forward. McCarthy finished in double figures in both goals and assists last season. She had a great knack for scoring key goals during the Fords' run to the Central League championship. She was an invitee to the National Junior Camp.

Kara Magley, Council Rock North, Sr., midfielder. Magley has some very big shoes to fill as she steps in for the graduated Becky Ely and the Indians try to make it three in a row in the Suburban One League National Division. Magley has committed to play lacrosse at Boston College.
