Sat. Pa. boys' and girls' roundup: La Salle wins in Pittsburgh

La Salle needed overtime on Saturday to knock off host Pittsburgh Central Catholic, 2-1, in a nonleague boys' soccer matchup of Christian Brothers schools.

Senior forward Darius Madison beat a defender down the left side and found senior teammate Khristian Hall on a cross for the game winner 2 minutes, 30 seconds into the extra period. Madison also scored in the first half.

This was the Explorers' first trip to the Oakland campus and they plan to host Central Catholic next season.

In other nonleague boys' soccer action, Brett Beaumont scored the game-winning goal in overtime after he recieved a through-ball from Angel Luviano as Archbishop Ryan knocked off host Truman, 4-3. Marcus Otto had 5 saves for the Raiders.

Unionville scored twice in each half and featured four different goal scorers as it cruised past visiting Upper Darby, 4-0. Perry Hopkins recorded four saves to post the shutout, and Andy Joseph, Andy Matson, Matt Stewart and Sam Yarosh provided tghe goals.

Sophomore Brett Glasco scored his first varsity goal as West Chester Rustin knocked off host Garnet Valley, 4-1. Grant Vasi saved four shots and the Golden Knights' offense featured four goal scorers.

Nick Laganelli and Jimmy McDermott each found the net in the final minutes of the first half as Conestoga slipped past host Downingtown East, 2-0. McDermott headed in a cross from Andrew Connors with 30 seconds left in the half. Clarke Fox had two saves for his second shutout.

Jay Farrell sparkled in goal with six saves, and Colin Hartzell scored from Jon Garino early in the second half, steering Episcopal Academy past host Marple Newtown, 1-0.

Marc Meoli and David Silvarian split goalkeeper duties for North Penn to post a 4-0 shutout over visiting Archbishop Wood. The two goalies combined for seven saves. Matt Robinson scored off a corner and added an assist for the Knights.

Andrew Raudabaugh made five saves and then scored on a penalty kick as Ridley downed visiting Chichester, 3-0.

Brett Campbell scored twice and recorded an assist as Haverford School defeated Hill School, 4-0. Ted Wolter had 7 saves for visiting Hill.

Mark Gurenlian and Sam Mola scored goals 15 minutes apart late in the game, lifting Springfield (Delaware County) past visiting Pottsgrove, 2-0.
