Germantown Friends freshman Greta Meyer made a strong impression in her first varsity girls' soccer game on Tuesday.
Meyer scored the first goal of the game, which proved to be the game-winner, in the Tigers' 4-0 nonleague victory at Agnes Irwin and finished with a three-goal performance.
Meyer came off the GFS bench 25 minutes into the contest and scored 7 minutes later. She added two second-half goals, along with a goal by teammate Claire Schmidt.
In other nonleague action, Alexa Bowman, a junior, scored the first of her three goals off the opening tap on a 45-yard blast 5 seconds into the game, starting Abington Friends' 3-1 win at Solebury School.
Sophie Katz's second goal of the game was scored with 2 minutes left in overtime, lifting Shipley past host Notre Dame, 3-2. Katz also tied the goal in the final minute of regulation.
Catholic Academies. Gwynedd-Mercy coach Gary Lamsback, in his 10th season, chalked up his 100th career victory as the Monarchs beat visiting Mount St. Joseph, 2-1. Christine Kindt and Colleen Loftus scored the goals, and goalie Courtney Sullivan made 16 saves.
Mary Grace Zeller's 40-yard direct kick found the net with 6 minutes remaining, turning Merion Mercy into a 2-1 winner over visiting Nazareth Academy.
Katie Bettenhausen scored Villa Maria's game-winning goal from Kayla Lewis, and Kimmy Spaventa added an insurance penalty kick to beat host St. Basil, 2-0.
Central. Radnor's 1-0 thriller at Lower Merion featured Siobhon Osborne's goal from Natie Miller with 25 minutes left in the second half. Red Raiders goalie Bari Margolis made six saves.
Conestoga's Chrissy Bradley and Maddie Swarr scored on corner kicks, and Sarah Priem and Salina Williford scored on breakaways to win, 4-0, at Upper Darby.
Bicentennial. Delco Christian's defense allowed just three shots at goalie Jamie Barr in a 2-0 win at MaST Charter. Mia Jasinski and Jessica Lewis netted the goals.
Tri-County. Barrack Hebrew won its season opener, 4-1, over visiting Mercy Vocational as Tamara Moskowitz scored all four goals. Sivan Ben-Maimon, Nora Abel and Tamar Cahana provided assists.
West Chester East, anchored by goalie Lisa Imburgia's seven saves, played solid defense in a 1-0 Ches-Mont League shutout against visiting Octorara. Maddy Lewis knocked in the goal off Nina Mazzarelli's assist in the first half.
West Chester Henderson squeezed past host Great Valley, 2-1, with goals off the sticks of Kate Fay and Katie O'Donnell.
