Pa. Girls: Manion's goal gives Ryan the victory

Junior midfielder Megan Manion scored the game-winning goal Monday in the 80th minute as visiting Archbishop Ryan slipped past Pennsbury, 2-1 in a nonleague girls' soccer match.

Manion stole the ball off a defender and fired a shot from 18 yards out. Lexi Brown scored the equalizer late in the first half for the Falcons.

In other nonleague action, freshman Marin Bloise scored twice including the game winner in the second half as visiting Agnes Irwin downed Westtown, 2-1.

The striker was assisted by Eliza Moran from inside the penalty box with 30 minutes left in regulation. Her first half goal was assisted by Molly Becker. Autumn Webberburn had 5 saves for the Owls.

Inter-Ac. Sophomore Kerry Lawlor scored once in each half to record her first mulit-goal game of the season as visiting Germantown Academy downed Springside, 4-0. Natalie Toner had six saves for the shutout.

Catholic. Conwell-Egan rolled to 6-0 road win over Neumann-Goretti behind two goals from Jenna Richards.

Elizabeth Jones scored twice, including the go-ahead goal early in the second half, as host St. Hubert held off Archbishop Carroll, 3-1. Emily Klenk later added an insurance goal. Krista Patterson had six saves for the Bambies, while Abby Johnson made seven saves for the Patriots.

Bryn Wassel and Hannah Whitby scored twice each as Lansdale Catholic downed visiting Hallahan, 8-0. The Crusaders used six different goal scorers and outshot Hallahan 16-1. Bridget Golden had seven saves for the Mouseketeers.

Ches-Mont. Rebecca Sherry found the net twice and West Chester Henderson rolled over host Great Valley, 4-0. Jenna Morris had 15 saves for Great Valley.

Samantha Bailey and Joanna Dawyot both scored in the second half to lead Kennett past visiting Oxford, 2-0.  

Catholic Academies. Nicole Natale scored two goals and recorded two assists as visiting Merion Mercy downed St. Basil, 5-1.  

Council Rock South Tournament. Five different goal scorers found the net for Villa Joseph Marie as the Jems rolled to a 5-1 win over Perkiomen Valley. Emily Market and Erica Petrone each recorded a goal and an assist and Caroline Gray stopped five Vikings shots. The Vikings lone goal was an own goal.

 

Golf

Mount St. Joseph produced seven of 14 qualifiers for the District 1 championships in a Catholic Academies tournament at Spring Hollow Golf Club.

Mount's Issabella Dilisio carded a 70 to edge Michelle Applegate by two strokes. The District 1 tournament will be held Oct. 11 at Gilbertsville.
