All four stolen rental trucks recovered

Police have now recovered all four rental trucks that were stolen over the weekend and put security officials on heightened alert on the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

The last vehicle was found Tuesday night at Chadwick and Reed Streets in South Philadelphia's Point Breeze section, police said today.

The trucks were stolen about 7 p.m. Saturday from a U-Haul lot at 12th Street and Washington Avenue in South Philadelphia.

Two of them were recovered early Tuesday a block apart in Southwest Philadelphia and the third was found Tuesday morning in North Philadelphia.

The theft of the four vehicles prompted concern because rental vans have been used as truck bombs in the past, including the attacks on the World Trade Center in 1993 and the Oklahoma City federal building in 1995.

Last week, security officials in New York City and Washington were warned about intelligence of credible threats of a car- or truck-bomb attack on bridges or tunnels in those cities during the 9/11 anniversary.
