Fri. S.J. boys’ roundup: St. Augustine wins late

St. Augustine and visiting Ocean City played 99 scoreless minutes before the Hermits finally broke through with a last-minute goal on Friday.

Velton Koons set up senior Dominick Palmieri for the goal with one minute left in the second extra period to give St. Augustine a 1-0, Cape-Atlantic League victory in boys' soccer.

James Higbee had a dozen saves for the Hermits, ranked No. 10 in South Jersey by The Inquirer, and Ocean City got 10 saves from goalie Kiran Keyser.

Also in the Cape-Atlantic, Sacred Heart freshman Steven Tobolski scored his fourth goal of the season 30 minutes into the game, and the Lions topped visiting Buena, 4-0. Mike Mazzochi also scored, and goalie Sam Nichols notched four saves.

Lower Cape May rolled past host Cape May Tech, 5-1, for its first win as Dominic Vitale scored twice.

Olympic. Angelo Dambalas and Mike Ryan teamed for a pair of goals by Ryan, highlighting top-ranked Cherokee's 3-0 success against visiting Lenape, the No. 4-ranked squad. Chiefs goalie Barry Fitzgerald came up with five saves.

Third-ranked Eastern stayed unscored on in four games, but host Washington Township goalie Nick Ditullio matched Vikings goalie Cory Brodkin and the teams settled for a scoreless tie. Ditullio made eight saves, and Brodkin stopped nine shots.

First-half goals by Francis Kailondo and Jan Kampen gave Winslow Township enough offense to beat host Pennsauken, 2-0. Winslow goalie Shane Holliman made eight saves.

Shawnee got back to .500 (2-2) after an 0-2 start this fall by beating visiting Triton, 3-0. Greg Biggiani scored the game's first two goals, and goalie Mike Hartman had seven saves.

Seneca's 2-0 triumph over visiting Bishop Eustace featured goals by Yannick Cools and Kent Dimming, and six saves by goalie Ryan Oyola.

Tri-County. Wildwood defeated visiting Salem for the first time ever in soccer, 4-2, with a three-goal performance by Angel Orozco, and two assists each by Jared Irwin and Josh DiBiasio.

Joe Marano deposited an unassisted goal in each half of Highland's 2-0 shutout of visiting GCIT. Zach Greenwood guarded the Tartans goal with eight saves.

Williamstown built a 3-0 halftime advantage with Jake Love's two goals and Eric Hermann's single score, and the host Braves held on for a 3-2 win over Glassboro.

Gloucester Catholic got two assists by Pat Kane, and single goals from Edgar Chew, Mike Langston and Tim Scaffidi in a 3-1 win at Kingsway.

First-half goals by Cumberland's Brandon Shidner and Deptford's Brian Palangi resulted in a 1-1 tie at Cumberland.

Burlington County. Westampton Tech beat visiting sister school Medford Tech, 3-1, behind a JoJo Abrahante goal and an assist, and Carlos Hernandez's penalty-kick goal.

Florence's third win was a 2-0 verdict over visiting Burlington City, buoyed by four saves from goalie Kellen Groover. Tolu Abaiona and Jay Pakan scored goals.

Nonleague. Doane Academy's John Victor scored the tying goal from Joe DeMarco with 13 minutes to go in the first half as Doane and host Morrisville settled for a 1-1 draw.

Mariano Riveria had a goal and two assists, topping a list of six Woodbury players who contributed a goal each to a 6-1 win over visiting Camden County Tech.
