Fri. Pa. girls' roundup: Conestoga defeats Upper Dublin

In a matchup of two of the area's top field hockey teams, Conestoga needed overtime to edge host Upper Dublin, 2-1, on Friday afternoon in a nonleague matchup.

Freshman Oliver Everts scored the game-winner 30 seconds into the extra period after making a move around the Cardinals goalie on a breakaway.

Britta Hjelm tied the game on an unassisted goal in the first half. The senior is ticketed for Yale. Kelly Cross's early goal gave the Cardinals a 1-0 advantage.

The Conestoga defense, led by Claire McDougall and Nicole Stevenson, held an opponent to one goal or fewer for the fourth time this season as the team improved to 6-1-1. In its previous five games, Upper Dublin scored an average of 3.2 goals per game.

Cardinals goalie Dana Russell recorded 10 saves and Connestoga's Anna Karr saved two.

In other nonleague action, freshman defender Kristen Mansfield's first-half goal proved to be all that was needed as Notre Dame held off Archbishop Carroll, 1-0.

Emily Faught recorded the assist and Senior cocaptain Emily Fuss had 14 saves, including a few sparkling ones to record her second shutout.

Franchesca Aldrich scored the game's lone goal in the first half off an assist from Uli Meyer-Linderman as host George School slipped past Perkiomen School, 1-0.

Pennridge scored once in each half to pass Norristown, 2-0. Emily Kaempf and Addy Marshall each scored a goal. Norristown's Eliana Gilett recorded 19 saves.

Julia Donald and Katie Ferrara each scored a goal and assisted two others as Hill School easily downed Friends' Central, 6-0.

Episcopal Academy scored three times in the second half to extend its one-goal halftime lead in a 4-1 win over visiting Shipley. Calli Kilmer scored twice for the Churchmen and Alana Dumas added a goal and assist.

Claire Lippay recorded four saves and Haley Smith scored twice as Jenkintown shut out visiting Upper Moreland, 3-0.

Pioneer. Emily Rodenberger scored twice and Mackenzie Lederer added a goal and an assist to lead Upper Perkiomen to a 5-1 win at Pottstown.

 

Girls' Soccer

Late in the second half, Cassidy Forsyth's blast from 25 yards out nailed the crossbar and fell into the net to give W.C Henderson a 2-1 win at Garnet Valley. Caroline Schwartz made 11 saves for the Jaguars, including a few key saves to keep the score tied.

In other nonleague action, Michelle Latrancia recorded two assists and Jenna Richards scored three times in the second half as Conwell-Egan pulled off a 5-3 win at Pope John Paul II.
