Second verbal commitment for Temple hoops

Posted: September 16, 2011

TEMPLE'S BASKETBALL program has received its second verbal commitment for the class of 2012. The Owls landed 6-6 swingman Quenton DeCosey, from St. Joseph's High in Metuchen, N.J.

Considered a very good get by those whose business it is to evaluate this stuff, he visited Temple last week and chose North Broad Street over Penn State. He was scheduled to go to State College last weekend but didn't.

A source familiar with the situation said that Dwayne Killings, who returned to the Temple staff last spring after Matt Langel left to take the head coaching job at Colgate, was instrumental in the recruiting process.

The Owls previously got Devontae Watson, a 6-9 center from Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter in suburban Pittsburgh, one of the best big men on the western side of the commonwealth.

With two scholarships left to give, the Owls are still right there with 6-8 Devin Thomas, from Harrisburg's Central Dauphin. The top big man in central Pennsylvania is apparently down to Temple, Wake Forest and Virginia Tech.

They're also in the mix for Friends Central's Emile Jefferson, a top 15-20 prospect. So is Villanova, Ohio State and North Carolina State.

The Owls had a home visit from 6-6 combo guard Daniel Dingle, of St. Raymond's in the Bronx. The brother of former Massachusetts swingman Dana, he's also being pursued by UMass, Seton Hall and Auburn, where former UMass standout Tony Barbee is the coach.

Dorsey Walker, a 6-4 guard from Detroit with offers from Michigan, Minnesota, Iowa State, Indiana, Florida State and Boston College, visited Temple's campus last weekend.
