Tambon all but sealed the outcome midway through the fourth quarter. He stepped in front of wideout Daryl Worley, intercepted Kevin Murphy's pass, and dashed 45 yards for a score that gave Interboro a 27-13 advantage with 7 minutes, 48 seconds remaining.
"The pass was underthrown," he said. "I just came up and took it. On the return, I got a nice block from [outside linebacker] Sonny Armstrong. It was a great feeling. That really changed the momentum."
Tambon's other interception came in the second quarter. On that return, he was slammed to the turf, near the visiting sideline, by Penn Charter's Mike McGlinchey, a 6-8, 275-pound two-way tackle and Division I recruit.
"It was a nice hit," said the 18-year-old from Glenolden. "I like getting hit."
The Bucs, looking to regain the Del-Val League crown that was taken away last year by Penn Wood, improved to 2-1. They had opened the season with a 35-21 loss to Delaware County neighbor Springfield.
"We're trying to get better each week," Bucs coach Steve Lennox said. "We've moved some kids around, made some technical adjustments. The kids have responded."
Because of injuries, the Quakers (1-1) were without a pair of two-way starting linemen: junior Mark Opaliski and senior Ed Malandro. They lost a third, senior Tyler Mercer, in the second half.
Penn Charter tailback Eric Neefe, a 5-10, 215-pound junior, carried 20 times for 139 yards and three TDs.
On the game's opening series, Neefe capped a six-play drive with a 41-yard TD jaunt. Later in the first quarter, after looking to be trapped along the left sideline, he broke free for a 27-yard score that put the hosts in front, 13-7.
In the final minute of the third quarter, Interboro broke a 13-13 deadlock on Josh Breen's 23-yard TD pass to fullback Tom Takacs. .
After Tambon's pick-six, the Quakers drove 68 yards, on nine plays, and made it 27-19 on Neefe's 2-yard TD run.
They regained possession with 3:36 to play and reached the Interboro 27 on Murphy's 8-yard throw to Eric Berger. But on his next attempt, toward the right corner of the end zone, Frampton came up with a clinching interception.
