Thurs. Pa. girls’ roundup: Wissahickon wins American title

Danielle Mustin rallied for a three-set victory at third singles and helped Wissahickon clinch its fourth straight Suburban One League American Conference girls' tennis championship with a 6-1 win at Plymouth Whitemarsh on Thursday.

Mustin beat Jordi Swanson, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, and the Trojans swept the doubles matches to finish their second unbeaten regular season in four years.

In a feature match at first singles, the Colonials' Cristina Kaiser defeated Maureen Devlin, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.

 

Field Hockey

Haverford High maintained the top spot in the Central League standings with a 2-1 thriller over visiting Garnet Valley. After falling behind by 1-0, the Fords rallied with second-half scores by Rosie Coogan and Morgan Druce, who scored with 7 minutes, 33 seconds left from Jess McCarthy.

Ridley and host Radnor battled to a 1-1 draw as Radnor's Sydney Cowles scored with 9:29 left in the first half, and the Green Raiders' Taylor Eubanks scored from Jamie Hills with 7:05 to go in the second half.

Katie Hild's goal with 14 minutes left broke a 1-1 stalemate and made Upper Darby a 2-1 winner at Lower Merion.

Public. Washington goalie Montana Fritz made five saves for her fourth shutout in five games, a 1-0 overtime win over visiting Central. Junior Barbara Danhardt scored the goal on a penalty stroke 6:29 into OT.

Erica Thompson's two goals ignited Northeast's 3-0 victory at Girls High.

Ches-Mont. Unbeaten West Chester Henderson (7-0-1) beat rival West Chester East, 3-0, at East (4-4) as Kate Fay, Katie O'Donnell, and Emily Torranti scored goals, and Warriors goalie Rosalie Nolan made three saves.

West Chester Rustin defeated host Sun Valley, 3-0, with single goals by Madison Holbrook, Laura Smith and Robyn Spatichia.

Jackie Douglas and Katie Defusco each had a goal and an assist, and Great Valley goalie Bridget Comaskey stopped seven shots in a 5-1 victory over visiting Bishop Shanahan.

Inter-Ac. Episcopal Academy improved to 6-0-1 via a 4-1 win at Springside in which Alana Dumas had two goals and an assist, and goalie Giana Pileggi made four saves.

Catholic Academies. Goalie Christina Black held visiting Sacred Heart scoreless, while Ann Burgoyne, Allie Sabia, and Brooke Sabia scored in Mount St. Joseph's 3-0 win.

Pioneer Athletic. The fourth shutout in the last five games by Perkiomen Valley goalie Audrey Bonavita was a 5-0 win over visiting Boyertown.
